A Tradition Continues
Fagan’s Biscuit Barn is the newest business located on this property. Serving
homemade, country food, we are continuing a business tradition covering almost
200 years.
Our family claimed and settled this property in 1828 using it for the purpose of
farming. In the 1920’s, our grandparents, A.C. and Edith Fagan built a general
store here. They sold groceries, gasoline, sewing material, and livestock feed
among other things. This store became the gathering place of the community for
many years. The store served as the location of a county mobile library stop for
this end of the county. The white house on this property housed the telephone
operator that connected the south end of the county with Cumming when making a
telephone call. Cotton farming continued as a mainstay on the property until the
1960’s.
Our father Bill Fagan, Sr. built a grocery store in Cumming in the 1950’s. It
was only one of two grocery stores there in the 50’s, 60’s, and 70’s. In the
early 1980’s, he decided to take over his parents’ store here and built a new
building on the corner across the road. It was called The Landmark. Beginning as
a convenience store, he soon added homemade biscuits to sell for breakfast and
fresh hamburgers for lunch. This began our idea for Fagan’s Biscuit Barn. The
Landmark was open until he retired in 1993 when he leased the building to other
operators.
We want to continue our family tradition of serving the community through
Fagan’s Biscuit Barn.
